i have no business being awake right now but, i must admit,
i am certainly not asleep.
and given that today is the birthday of my darling progenitor,
Ruth Ellen Steinman Bloustein, during this bout of industry in the middle of the night, i will nod to both her occasional insomnia and her propensity for being an anxious traveler.
wednesday, we we will be on the move from Mazatlan to El Fuerte,
by way of Los Mochis, headed into the Copper Canyon.
our practice packing tonight was a little disappointing - there are bulges in baggage i'd really hoped might be svelte. somehow i count over-packing as a personal failure though i know i inherited it from my darling mother (my father was a Spartan Packer like my ex-husband and various other people i know and fear luggage condemnation from).
for gods-sake, i tell myself,
it's only the Night-Before-the-Night-Before we leave!
but, somehow, that doesn't make me any more ready for bed...
Ok. Nice new hiking shoes you have pictured above. Do they help with the vertigo? How is the vertigo?
ReplyDeleteHappy our mom's birthday sis.
And yes I so concur: it is only the night before the night before. This is not the time to beat yourself up for bulges and over-packing.
Love to you on the day of the birth of the unique soul who birthed us. I wish I had skype at work!
xoxoxoxo
Packing tension in women a remnant Stone Age behavior... Possibly - common to all but the most frequent traveler for whom packing is no more onerous than checking her purse.
ReplyDeleteSweet remembrance of you Mother, Lori.
Joyous square dancing!
i was just wondering this morning, as i prepare to begin (fret) the actual packing for breitenbush jam (2 days early...but some of it will still be mental until the morning of leaving...bedding and last washing...) wondering if some frequent travelers i know who rarely unpack, if after they take a year off from traveling and get ready to leave their home base, if they encounter their bags as yet unpacked? hmm, am i talking about me in metaphor? if so, i'm in the process of unpacking my meta bags--yeah they been packed tight for a long, long time.
ReplyDelete*happiness to mommy blue!* love yo lo, kren
Vertigo improving bit by bit...
ReplyDeleteandrew, as a person with a LOT of space (he lives in a large loft) often leaves bags packed for great lengths of time. i see him living out of various luggages strewn about the place which function, simply, as Drawers Without Bureaus (aka - dwb's)...
Anon 1/Sarah: i LOVE the idea that this is Stone Age Leftovers (like some of the questionable foods in my frig!)
kren = remember when we did the dance on my mother's birthday maybe 12 years ago? Da Turning of Da Children in Da Bed...
